Aunt's Chocolate Chip Cookies

A classic born in the midwest and perfected in New England. My Aunt Jennifer, who I have called Aunt Foo since I was about seven years old, has always made the best chocolate chip cookies around. I would be an idiot if I did not include this recipe here.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment.
  2. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk dry ingredients. Slowly mix into wet mixture.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
  5. Scoop onto baking sheet. Bake 10–12 mins until just golden at edges.
  6. Cool 5 mins on pan, then transfer to rack.
