A simple tomato sauce that forms the backbone of countless meals. Learn this once and you'll never be without dinner.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • Kosher salt
  • Black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook until soft and translucent.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  4. Add tomatoes and a generous pinch of salt.
  5. Simmer gently 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Adjust seasoning before using.
