Chocolate Sheet Cake with Boiled Frosting

Sheet cake with warm boiled frosting poured over while it's hot. Fudgy, moist, rich. The kind of cake that gets eaten straight from the pan with a fork.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Frosting: 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup cocoa, 6 tbsp milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 3–4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a sheet pan.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients. In saucepan, bring butter, oil, water, and cocoa to a boil. Pour over dry mix.
  3. Stir in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Pour into pan and bake 20–25 mins.
  4. Boil frosting ingredients, remove from heat, and whisk in powdered sugar.
  5. Pour over warm cake and spread evenly. Cool before cutting.
