Green Bean Casserole with Fried Shallots

Adding shredded cheese and a dash of soy saucue really takes this to a different place. Green bean casserole is one of those things that certainly had to grow on me, but I'm really glad that it has. Obviously if you were so inclined you could add 1/2lb crisped chopped bacon just before baking to this bad boy too.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed and blanched. Frozen French ones from Trader Joes are perfect for this
  • 1 can cream of mushroom OR chicken soup
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup sharp shredded cheese
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup fried shallots (or French fried onions)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix soup, milk, soy sauce, cheese, pepper, and green beans.
  3. Spread into greased baking dish, top with half the shallots.
  4. Bake 25 minutes, then top with remaining shallots and bake 5–10 more minutes until golden.
  5. Serve warm with love.
