Seven Layer Bars (Magic Bars)

Also called Magic Bars, these are just so good. Graham cracker crust, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, and pecans. Seven simple layers that somehow become greater than the sum of their parts. They're rich, sweet, chewy, and impossible to stop eating.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal.
  2. Pour melted butter into the pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over butter and press down firmly to form a crust.
  3. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust, covering as much as possible.
  4. Layer chocolate chips evenly over the condensed milk. Then add butterscotch chips in an even layer.
  5. Sprinkle shredded coconut over the chips, then top with chopped pecans.
  6. Press down gently with your hands to help everything stick together.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until edges are golden brown and center is set. The condensed milk should be bubbly around the edges.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan (at least 2 hours, or refrigerate for 1 hour). Use parchment overhang to lift out of pan. Cut into bars.
