Tater Tot Hot Dish

The Minnesota dish that launched a thousand church basements. Ground beef, cream of celery, tater tots. Comfort food with no apologies. I was so hesitant to try this when I moved here. It just seemed blasphemous. And, it is. In a good way. Just make one. You'll see. Feel free to add diced jalapenos or anything else you have laying around. This recipe is just a base.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 can cream of celery soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Brown ground beef and onion in a skillet. Drain fat.
  3. Stir in soup, milk, and frozen vegetables. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Spread mixture in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
  5. Top evenly with tater tots.
  6. Bake for 35–40 minutes until tots are golden.
  7. Sprinkle with cheese and bake 5 more minutes until melted.
